Han Hoezen

Film is not about the image, it is about imagination. An image (and sound) is raw material, like shapeless clay or like words you can use to write a poem. Playing with it can change context and emotional impact completely. You can make people laugh, cry or be bored with the same material.
So let’s play.

Han Hoezen (1960) is an autodidact filmmaker.
Already from the first contact with making film at the Free Acadamy of Fine Arts in The Hague (not a school but a playground). Han started to experiment with the narrative power of it. After two years he continued learning by practice, doing commissioned work and sometimes making free work.
In the years that followed Han developed his skills as a director, camera operator and editor, sometimes in collaboration, often as a ‘one man band’. However trying to play as much as possible in commissioned work (sometimes great fun, often limited), making free work is what Han Hoezen loves to do most.
